Welcome to the information page about my upcoming Masters of Music recital.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 19th, 2025 at 2:00 PM Central Standard Time!

Scroll down to find information about the program, live attendance, and how to view the recital online.

I hope you watch in person or online to hear the world premiere of GRAMMY award-winning composer Jeff Scott’s “Veil of Solitude” and the work it is inspired by - Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe.

The Program

Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, Sonata No. 3 in G Major

  • A light, energetic sonata written for cello and continuo by French Baroque composer Boismortier.

  • Featuring Casey Rafn, piano and Andrea Wallick, cello.

Robert Schumann, Dichterliebe

  • A cycle of sixteen songs that - depending on interpretation - depicts loss of love, loss of artistic inspiration, or satirizes overly indulgent artistic expressions of these losses.

  • Featuring Casey Rafn, piano.

Jeff Scott, “Veil of Solitude” (World Premiere)

  • A four-movement work for bassoon and piano that I commissioned Jeff to write as a response to the music and themes of Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe. “Veil of Solitude” traces its own journey through poems by Annete von Droste-Hülshoff, Beulah B. Malkin, John Keats, and a short story by Joyce M. Scott. This work is beautiful, profound, challenging, and operatic in scope, drawing on the fullest extent of what the bassoon is capable of.

  • Featuring Casey Rafn, piano.
